#16 part 2

In this continuation of the 16th section I discuss what I do not like about how professional wrestling is viewed by certain fans right now often refereed  as: "Smart Marks"  compared to the past and what those aspects are.   Please NOTE:  that there are no solutions from me just the problems I see.    One of the vice presidents of Impact also color commentator for New Japan pro wrestling Don Calais  said something that I think is an important destination and that is most of the newer generation views the product more of just a performance art where fans chant fight forever and this is Impact where everyone is in on the joke and they all shake hands.   That is the wrong way to go about it because the fans are losing the ora and the mystique that made professional wrestling special in the past.   Or what they loved in the beginning the larger than life personalities and gimmicks that were personalities that were their real personalities that had their volume turned all the way up.   That is why they connected with the fans in the first place.   More importantly why they had such longevity and made money.      I think this is spot on I know that many fans and journalist will disagree with me but I am a true believer that old school will never die.   Meaning this form of entertainment has evolved but the basic philosophy will never change.     New Japan commentator Kevin Kelly said something similar to Don’s point that the philosophy of fans being in on “the joke” is very short sided.    Which again is counterintuitive to what fans and talent have been taught but my point here it should not be counterintuitive.   The philosophy of fans being in on the joke does work in the WWE but I am not concerned with the WWE.   I am referring to New Japan Impact etc.   It needs to be instilled because fans will not be conditioned to talent performing unnecessary stunts is the most import reason.   The second reason it just makes a better product.   I used the term performance art to describe professional wrestling earlier. I used the term because Andy Kaufman described himself as a performance artist.   Andy also happened to be a huge fan.   The main reasons the wrestlers shake each other's hand is for one reason they need each other.    The promoter will shake every wrestlers hand because he or she needs each of them.      It used to be and still is a wrestler may only get an opportunity only on a  hand shake.   A hand shake in professional wrestling means something it has not changed.      Moose is a despicable person he could have killed Eddie Edwards in his match at Impact’s special Final Hour when he release powerbomed Eddie on the stage.   Moose has shown no remorse after what he did to Eddie.    Moose went too far during that match.   Eddie Edwards has become one of my favorite wrestlers this year.   Eddie has really come out of his shell this year.   Eddie has always been a great well rounded professional wrestler but not in terms of his personality.   Scott D’amore and Don Calais have been dubbed this year as: the “Golden bookers” because they have competly turned Impact around this year.     I have always loved the product so it  is diffcult for me to be so called objective but both Scott D’amore and Don Calais are geniuses for turning Impact around.   Don Calais is also the color commentator for New Japan pro wrestling and other endeavors.
